مقدمه
در فرهنگ هر کشوری مناسبات خاصی وجود دارند که یادآور وقایع تاریخی یا مذهبی مهمی بوده و برای مردم آن کشور از ارزش خاصی برخوردار هستند. در برخی از این مناسب‌ها، افراد دور هم جمع شده و جشن می‌گیرند. عید نوروز، یلدا، کریسمس، و هالووین از جمله‌ی چنین جشن‌هایی به شمار می‌روند. می‌دانیم که زبان و فرهنگ بطور عمیقی با هم آمیخته و ارتباط با هریک آشنایی با دیگری را نیز بدنبال دارد. بنابراین، شما به عنوان یک زبان‌آموز باید با جشن‌های مهمی که در فرهنگ انگلیسی زبانان ریشه دارند آشنا باشید و بتوانید در مورد آنها صحبت کنید. این کار همچنین در توصیف جشن‌ها و رسوم ایرانیان نیز به شما کمک می‌کند. در زیر یک فایل صوتی مشاهده می‌کنید که در آن دو نفر در مورد دو جشن خاص صحبت می‌کنند. ابتدا لغات و اصطلاحات مهم بکار رفته در این فایل را بخوایند و سپس آن را گوش دهید.

توصیف دو جشن در سوئد و بریتانیا
- “I’m from Sweden and we celebrate Santa Lucia day every year. We call it Lucia. Well, Santa Lucia was from Italy originally. Sicily, I think. But we celebrate her day in Sweden. It’s on December 13th. It’s just a nice, little celebration. For children really, especially little girls about 10 or 11. So, young girls dress up in white dresses, and they hold candles and sing a song. The Santa Lucia song. And they sell coffee and cake and things in their school. And sometimes, they go to offices or hospitals, or they can do it at home.
- We have a lot of national holidays here in Britain. We call them bank holidays. I think because the banks are closed or something. Anyway. There are about nine or ten days a year, I think. But there aren’t any in the next month or so. I’m trying to think. The next special event here, the next one is….. Oh, it’s Bonfire Night on November 5th. It’s not a holiday really. You don’t take time off work for it, but a lot of people celebrate it. It’s fun. People get together and they light big bonfires and we have fireworks and things. But, it’s usually very cold in November and sometimes it rains and we all get wet. But, it’s really for the children, they enjoy it.”
